A new S$1-million scholarship programme was launched on Monday to support training in Singapore’s manufacturing sector.
An initiative under the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and German Institute of Science and Technology (TUM Asia), the Manufacturing STEP Scholarship programme (MS2) seeks to build a pool of management talents for the manufacturing sector.
The first scholarship programme of its kind, MS2 involves a government-academia-industry joint partnership that allows potential scholars to be nominated and sponsored by their employers with funding support from WDA.
MS2 features in-company attachment and an employer-designed career progression plan.
Under the initiative, WDA will fund selected candidates to pursue studies leading to a Master of Science degree in one of several areas. These include Microelectronics, Aerospace Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design, Transportation & Logistics, Biomedical Imaging & Computing, and Industrial Chemistry.
The estimated value of WDA’s funding package for the initiative ‒ at S$1 million ‒ covers grants over a three-year period from August 2012 to July 2015.
