Albert Ménès Buttered Raisin Rusks
While I don’t usually indulge much in such a snack, my first bite of an Albert Ménès Buttered Raisin Rusk (or oven-dried toast) with strawberry jam of the same brand left me craving for more.
Each bite was rich and satisfying, with just the right balance of tangy sweetness. The small bite-sized strawberries not only retained their texture, but also proved to be crunchy, with a strong fruity taste.
According to Albert Ménès, its strawberry jam is made only with strawberries of the Senga Sengana species, chosen for their small size, flavour, strong taste and crunchiness.
The jam also includes a higher proportion of fruit ‒ 50 grams of fruit for 100 grams of jam ‒ as indicated on the label.
By itself, each golden toasted rusk had a hint of sweet raisins and natural fresh butter.
When the jam is spread with the buttered raisin rusk, the combination was delightful and I ended up eating several pieces of the snack.
In Singapore, Albert Ménès Strawberry Jam retails at S$16.70 and Albert Ménès Buttered Raisin Rusks sell for S$10.00. They are available at ThreeSixty in ION Orchard, Paragon Market Place and Toque in 896 Dunearn Road, Sime Darby Centre.
