“The nice thing about teamwork is that you always have others on your side.”
– Margaret Carty
Working as a team can be demanding. A team comprises many different personalities that each person on the team has to learn to work with. There are often issues to deal with, such as someone not doing his or her share of the work, or someone doing the work that was assigned to another. Even the most intimate team of all – the family unit – has its share of ups and downs.
But, being a part of the team can be a rewarding experience as well. Sharing makes successes more joyous and failures easier to take. If a team works well together, there is nothing better. And the best way for a team to work well together is for the team to have a team leader who understands the group dynamics.
True team members stick together under pressure. When a deadline is looming, you don’t work overtime at the office alone; rather, the rest of your team will be there with you. If something doesn’t go quite right, the whole team shoulders the burden and knows that every team member has a role whether the outcome is good or bad.
Don’t avoid teamwork just because it can be hard. Learning to be a good team member and a good team leader can open doors to future work opportunities.
