“In the depth of winter, I finally learnt that within me there lay an invincible summer.”
– Albert Camus
French Noble Prize-winner Albert Camus had a philosophy of life which, while influenced by Jean-Paul Sartre’s existentialism, was uniquely his own. He believed that the world and human beings are essentially absurd, but at the same time, he thought it possible to find meaning in life by concentrating on your own existence. Living your life to the maximum, savouring being alive, is the point of our time on earth.
Everyone reaches a point where events seem to conspire to bring you down. During the winter of your discontent, you wonder if you will ever get past this point. Finding a ray of sunlight during the worst times is sometimes impossible to imagine, but it’s not impossible to achieve.
Working towards a solution on your darkest business days requires skills, all of which you can learn from years of experience. But using those skills effectively, as a member of a team or as the team leader, requires a strong foundation of trust and belief in yourself. Knowing how to draw on that strength is how you will ultimately triumph over the bad times.
Finding that “invincible summer” within you will make you invincible as well. When everything looks dark and bleak, draw on that summer within to bring light to the situation.
