Some 30 companies and six individuals were recognised at the Singapore Corporate Awards (SCA) on Thursday for leading the way in corporate governance and shareholder communication.

The SCA comprises five categories ‒ Best Annual Report Award, Best Investor Relations Award, Best Chief Financial Officer Award, Best Chief Executive Officer Award, and Best Managed Board Award.

All the awards were segmented by market capitalisation of listed companies as at 31 October 2010 ‒ those with market capitalisation of S$1 billion and above (large-caps); S$300 million to less than S$1 billion (mid-caps); and less than S$300 million (small-caps).

Leading the corporate winners were Singapore Airlines, Olam International, Keppel, CapitaLand, Baker Technology and newly-listed STX OSV Holdings.

For large-caps companies, Singapore Airlines bagged a Gold award for Best Investor Relations, while its CFO Chan Hon Chew was named Best CFO in that market capitalisation sub-category. SIA Engineering Company and Singapore Exchange (SGX) jointly won the Bronze award for Best Managed Board.

Olam International, another large-caps company, took the Gold award for Best Managed Board, followed by Keppel Land, with a Silver award. Olam’s CEO Sunny Verghese also won the Best CEO award in that sub-category.

Among mid-caps companies, Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation clinched the Gold award for Best Managed Board.

The CapitaLand group bagged two Best Investor Relations awards ‒ Silver for CapitaLand Limited (large-caps) and Bronze for CapitaRetail China Trust (CRCT) (mid-caps).

CRCT also clinched a Gold award for Best Annual Report under the REITs & Business Trusts sub-category.

Among small-caps companies, Baker Technology won a Gold award for Best Managed Board and a Silver award for Best Annual Report.

STX OSV won a Gold award for Best Annual Report under the newly-listed companies sub-category and clinched a Merit for Best Investor Relations under the same segment.

Two other companies clinched awards in two of the five categories. Banyan Tree Holdings took the Silver awards for Best Managed Board and Best Annual Report under the mid-caps sub-category.

BH Global Marine won a Silver award for Best Managed Board under the small-caps sub-category, while its CFO, Keegan Chua Tze Wee, was named Best CFO under the same segment.

Yeo Lian Sim, Chairperson, Singapore Corporate Awards and Chief Regulatory Officer of SGX, congratulated the SCA winners.

“They (the winners) have done us proud as Singapore-listed companies with excellence in corporate governance and defined Singapore’s financial standing in global equity markets,” Yeo said in a statement.

The SCA is organised by The Business Times and supported by SGX.
